Men, Women, we’ve got it all…
RSL announced this afternoon that Rio Tinto Stadium will add the U.S. Women’s National Team to its calendar of events for this summer with the defending Olympic champs slated to take on Japan on May 23. The match marks the second trip to Utah for the Women’s squad after their 5-0 victory over Ireland at Rice-Eccles Stadium in 2003.
“We are honored to bring the U.S. Women’s National Team back to Utah and to have them represent U.S. Soccer in the program’s first-ever match at Rio Tinto Stadium,” said RSL and Rio Tinto Stadium President Bill Manning. “To host a national team game on Memorial Day weekend should provide for an incredible experience, and we expect that soccer fans from throughout the Intermountain West will respond and welcome the U.S. Women to Sandy with the same spirit and passion they regularly display for world-class events.”
Tickets will start at just $18 and will go on sale to the public Saturday, March 21, at 10:00 a.m. MT through www.RioTintoStadium.com, by phone at 801.727.2700 (Monday-Friday 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.) and at the Rio Tinto Stadium ticket office (open Monday-Friday 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and special hours on Saturday, March 21, starting at 10:00 a.m.). season ticket holders, meanwhile, will be allowed to purchase their tickets through an exclusive presale which will begin on Tuesday, March 17, at 10:00 a.m. MT and conclude on Thursday, March 19 at 2:00 a.m., with tickets available for purchase exclusively online through www.RioTintoStadium.com.
This is shaping up to be a great summer out here at Rio Tinto Stadium and we couldn’t be happier to see the Women’s National Team added to the agenda…

Wow the All Star match, a USMNT World Cup Qualifier, a USWNT exhibition, I can’t wait to see what we do for friendlies this year. Knowing some big clubs are coming to the US over the summer, plus some big concert tours. I can’t wait to see what is announced next.
This is really going to help the stadium make money and get RSL into the black.
Man its nice having your own stadium!!!! Keep it coming. RSL needs money and it looks like we are getting it. This is a big birdie finger to all those “stuck up wierdos” (edited for the public’s sake) that didn’t want the stadium to come!
I agree with Fan11. Yup in less than one full year of existence, Rio Tinto will have a US WC Qualifier, the US Women, The Eagles in concert, Kenny Chesney in concert, have hosted the MLS All Star Game, and have held the Western Conference Finals (from last year). Yup sounds like a bad idea through and through (sarcasm). Thanks for the wonderful insight Mayor Corroon!!!!
well. obviously i am goign to LOVE this!!!!!!!!
