Seitz a “Star” for a Day…
Real Salt Lake will see goalkeeper Kyle Reynish serve as the #2 behind incumbent starter Nick Rimando this weekend at New York after allowing regular back-up netminder Chris Seitz to serve a three-day loan (April 17-19) with the USL First Division’s Cleveland City Stars … The 22-year-old Seitz, who served as Brad Guzan’s back-up for the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team last summer in Beijing, will look to help the City Stars open up their USL-1 era with a victory this Saturday in their road contest at Miami FC (6:00 p.m. MT kickoff)…

I guess that is one way to get him some time on the pitch. I really think that RSL has made a mistake with Seitz. I think that we either needed to commit to Rimando and trade Seitz while he was really valuable or decide to go with Seitz in goal and get something of value for Rimando. There was a lot of demand for goalkeepers in this last winter around the league. Now we risk losing Seitz without ever having really given him a chance. I just don’t think he will stick around after this season if he isn’t given a shot.
Are you seriously saying that Real FO should have considered trading a reliable Rimando and put our whole season in the hands of an unproven Seitz on a whim?????
God bless us all
Very interesting move. Are we really to be believe this will only be a three-day loan deal? Or is this a trail for a longer loan spell?
I don’t know the answer, but I think any PT Seitz can get is a plus, both for him and, ultimately, for RSL.
Seitz or Rimando need to be traded to bring in more depth somewhere else with the team. Right now MLS needs quality keepers and RSL has 2 that could start for almost any team. Lets see what we could get in return.
People a loan deal is great! Cause Chris is still in our ownership and he gets good playing time, win win. We can still sell him later or keep him for when Rimando gets to the point of no more progress. Chris is young and will be better every game he plays.
Good move! Sietz gets some good time as a starter and we free up some spots for Espindola to come back. I think this is a good move both for RSL and Chris. He needs some time to improve and this gives him just that.
Play him or trade him. I think his career path is being derailed. For someone so hyped to be a really big talent, I dont think he can develop properly without playing time. I’m not sure whether I trust him to be a starter like so many people are calling for, can I ask a question. So many people are calling for him to play over Rimando, where are you seeing his skills? I saw a couple reserve games last year and he only played 45 min. Thats not alot of action for people to be calling him to replace Rimando.
I think you have to be realistic about this. While it would be great for Seitz to get more playing time, he has a lot yet to learn and Rimando should be able to help him. At the same time you need a quality second keeper around so you don’t end up losing matches because your #1 goalie gets injured or red carded (see Seattle this week). Think about Brad Guzan sitting on the pine for AV. Some day he may be their #1 keeper, but for now he is Friedel’s backup and can learn a lot. BTW, I am not comparing Rimando to Friedel.
With the Reserves Division gone, this is a great decision. Seitz needs to see full speed action in a competitive environment. I hope we see more loan deals like this (btw how is Nimo doing?). He’s going to go to Europe soon anyways.
The worst day in Seitz’s life was when he was convinced to sign a generation adidas contract. He had the chance to go the Europe where he would have gotten better training. He was headed to Belgium. The second worse day was when RSL drafted him. The third was when Garth Lagerwey became general manager. Why? Lagerwey has lied to him. Promised him starts before the Olympics. Right Garth? Three teams have made substantial trade offers that have been turned down. Why should he have any confidence in RSL and it’s management?
Seitz is better than Rimando. Fact.
