Taking the Outlaws
RSL held an 80-minute scrimmage this morning at Rio Tinto Stadium against the Ogden Outlaws of the USL’s PDL. The match was broken into four 20-minute periods with breaks for tactical and lineup changes in between.
Real kicked things off with a bang as Javier Morales put the team’s first tally on the board less than a minute into the match. It was an impressive finish off a ball played through the box by fellow midfielder Clint Mathis. That was it for the scoring in the opening period as RSL took their 1-0 lead into the second 20 minutes.
Real kept up the offensive pressure in their home stadium and the attack paid off midway through the second period as Andy Williams found Jean Alexandre streaking through the Ogden defense and the rookie midfielder slotted home for the 2-0 lead. It didn’t take long for RSL to build further on their lead when striker Yura Movsisyan took a ball on the wing from Kyle Beckerman. Turning and running at the defense, Yura beat his defender and fired an impressive, low finish inside the far post to give his squad the 3-0 lead.
The offensive onslaught continued in the third period with Will Johnson netting a cracker and Robbie Findley getting on the board after a nice sequence with Javi. Robbie wasn’t done there though, after a very nice piece of skill, Robbie pocketed his brace about 10 minutes from time.
So that does it. RSL finished the scrimmage with a 6-0 victory and an all-around commanding performance. They’re off to DC tomorrow ahead of Saturday’s match at RFK vs. United.

where was that against KC?
seriously, i wish yura had not scored. We always see him score against amateur leagues and practices, but he never puts it on the field. It also concerns me that espindola and escalada were not in that game…..Maybe this is jason’s starting line up for saturday? i hope not.
I checked the discipline report on mlsnet.com and I noticed something odd.
Ian Joy
Real Salt Lake
Suspension/Fine: $500
Reason: Disciplinary Committee Decision
How did Ian Joy get suspended and fined when he hasn’t played a minute? He hasn’t even been on the bench.
Woopee. No, that was not excitement, that is what is expected against a PDL team. Sounds like no lineup change, and another loss against a real, professional team.
Better to beat the Outlaws than to take a hike up the canyon.
I’m not going to put too much stock in any game against a minor league team. I agree Kreis needs to tweak the lineup, but I don’t think it’s the strikers that need changing.
Bohris, I wouldn’t worry about the Joy suspension; when Morales and Olave were suspended, mlsnet had them both playing for other teams. Not exactly a crack staff on that one, apparently.
Being Ian Joy, I actually wouldn’t doubt that he got booked somehow, even thought he hasn’t played. I think he needs cards to live.
I think this was a good idea, even if it is against a PDL side. It gives the team a winning mentality again. They seem to have forgot that.
I think Yura should go to the minor leagues. He needs to be developed more. Where’s the Argentines?? Obviously our front line just isn’t working.
isn’t that where Jame is going to play this summer?! oh and he also got the gatorade player of the year for utah!!!
hahah that should say james rogers
Best Comment Ever! “Better to beat the Outlaws than to take a hike up the canyon.”
I was laughing at that for a few. Seriously though, a hike up the canyon because the team is tired? They’re professional athletes for hell sake. They look tired and unmotivated against KC. Maybe the outlaws was what we need…. see the back of the net move! Yura is nasty and is an important piece for us. We need better service and better build up from our GK to our Defense to our Midfield… That’s on Kreis and staff to motivate these lazy players that walked around and rolled passes to each other against KC.
Let’s go RSL!!! put together your 1st road winning streak ever
how can you not be worried about the strikers? Our striker output has been minimal.
Any word if Outlaw FW Sam Charles played… and if so, how he looked?
EVEN MLSNET.COM IS COVERING YURA. THE VIDEO IS TITLED HOW DID HE MISS THAT AND ITS FEATURING YURA.
14 goals in 9 matches, a striker in the top 4 in the league, only two teams have scored more goals than RSL. We faced off against the best defense in MLS and got shut out, we faced the all time saves leader in MLS and got shut out but made him make 7 saves, including 3 great saves. Oh my god we are just an offensive disaster. Please people think before commenting, because we went without a goal in two matches you are going to panic?
RSL has never played well on the road early in a season, I do think we need to continue playing our 4-5-1 or whatever formation will support a more defensive posture on the road, the only reason it didn’t get a result against Chivas was a bad clearance. If your going to worry about something, how about us being on our 3rd string keeper, or the fact that our defense (a strong point last year) has struggled over the last month. Poor showing by the defense in Colorado, lackluster play against LA, a decent match against Chivas, and a total letdown against KC.
Why is everyone jumping all over our strikers who have put up numbers but nobody wants to talk about out of position Olave, or Wingert getting beat? How about the lack of possession in the midfield, too many bad passes and give aways. The problem is performance on the pitch and it is something the entire team needs to focus on.
All this shows is that REAL won’t be relegated and that they can play to the level of their opponent. Oh, that’s right relegation is not an option in MLS, well it should be for this crappy team.
Score six against DC, in your wildest dreams. Not putting points on the board should mean the end to Mr K.
Denz,
Olave was out of position on the first goal. Wingert got beat on the second goal (KC ref), and Borchers isn’t fast enough to help when our outside backs get beat.
They need to try a different defensive stance. Maybe it is the mids losing possession and not backtracking. Who knows.
Do you agree that Beck has stunk it up this year? Even my wife asks why he is always laying on the ground. Will looks lost. Javi is MIA. Yura lost his ability to shoot.
Findley has looked good on occasion.
However, DCU is on fire, and will torch us this weekend.
We are thinking, DENZ! Actually, we are SEEING. YOU… ARE. NOT…. SEEING.

YOU FORGOT TO MENTION WE ARE TIED FOR 10TH IN THE LEAGUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 10th!!!
You also forgot to mention that 6 of those goals happened on one night and another night was a hat trick.. so… thats more like 5 goals in 7 games. That will just not cut it.
QUIT MAKING EXCUSES DENZ! We aren’t playing well and our output is just not good enough.
Denz, how about you check out mlsnet.com’s Extra Time. They have a nice little segment called “How’d he miss that” and its featuring our friend, Yura.
Yura sucks, he has no ball control. Every time he gets that ball he does not know what to do with it and he trips on it. Bring on Espindola!
When are we going to hear about summer friendlies?
Bohris-
I googled Ian Joy’s fine and found an article saying that he was fined for making “inappropriate comments to officials” at halftime against KC. hahaha.
I also think we should shake up the line up as well. I don’t think that only switching the strikers would be enough, but I think it needs to be done, along with some tweaking in the midfield. We need to start Andy in my opinion. Swithcing things up a bit could be a wake up call to some players and maybe make them step up their game to keep their starting spots. Up until now a lot of players seem to be playing like there’s no danger of getting benched. And they’ve been right.
Denzypoo. YOU ARE STUPID.
Its true denz,
when you think about it, the only reason we have so many goals is one crazy blowout night against the revs and one hatrick. What happened? Were we alotted a certain amount of goals and decided to use almost all of the in 2 games? I’m saying it seems like we SHOULD be able to keep scoring, but SOMETHING has happened. I think Yura could be good. Always getting into or near scoring opportunities. Just can’t seem to finish or shoot at the side netting. Then theres Findley. We keep passing it TO him. Why wouild you pas the ball to where Findley IS? You should pass the ball to where he’s going to be. Its FINDLEY.
Anyways, i’m saying there IS a problem, but seems like it should be solvable wile keeping the guys we have.
well denz it’s wierd saying this, but i actually agree with you. olave has really not been great this year. people need to stop attacking yura and look how terrible our d has been. and the midfield against kc was terrible, the strikers got little quality service if any.
its just to easy for all you people to blame the strikers every time we lose. i believe there are alot bigger problems than our forwards. Will needs to get his first touch down, midfield needs to complete some passes, and olave keep your behind in position.
and last of all whoever has said you hope we get beat by dc this weekend, i hope you never attend or watch another rsl game again. some supporters you are. here is to a win this weekend!!!!!
i bet we are going to win this weekend. but the goal will not come from movsyian.
and to f40denzical. denziwenzi, you are stupid.
I doubt we’ll score this weekend. I wish my team the best though.
it’s a group effort to win and a group effort to lose! they all need to work harder!
