Iron Lion Zion
After an internal vote on the songs suggested on the blog and some GREAT discussion amongst fans (thank you all for your great ideas), we’ve come to a conclusion on a post-victory song… Bob Marley’s, Iron Lion Zion. The song fit every criteria we had for a post-victory celebration. It has a familiar and uplifting beat, the lyrics fit us perfectly, and people know the song and will be able to sing along. We will have the track cued up and ready to go for tomorrow night’s match, so hopefully we’ll have a chance to try it out following a resounding RSL victory. Good call on the song. Nothing like celebrating with Bob Marley.
This is an anti-war tune, no victory, no winners. Not a good choice, Zion” stands for a Utopian place of unity, peace and freedom.
awesome song. bob marley is AMAZING. but the song has no anthem feel and its kinda long. good song still. its good for a mid game song, or some chants maybe. but seriously, i doubt you will get many of the 10,000 people to stick around in their seats to sing this at the end of the match.
what you need for a good end of match song is short, anthem lyrics/music, and easy for EVERYONE to recognize. good effort, but were not quite there yet.
hopefully we try this at a few matches before we settle into a song that works.

I would have to agree that this is definitely not an anthem to be sung after a victory! We need a song that will catch everyone’s attention and involve everyone! I do not have a problem with the song as a whole, it is just not a great “anthem” that fans would participate in!!! Get something more catching and more popular that fans will know! I definitely do not know the song!

Can we get the trumpet section cut out of the middle? It creates too long of a break for a huge group to sing along to. In my own opinion…

I have to agree with Aj it’s a great chant for RSL, but probably not the victory anthem we were looking for.

Better have the Lyrics cued to scroll on the Jumbo Tron if you want people to be able to sing along with this one. Could be fun. Anything would be good after 3 points!
Cool song, interesting choice. I agree that you should also put the lyrics on the jumbotron. That, and beating FCD, will go a long way towards establishing this as our song.

i have to say that i think that you guys thinking of a victory song was a great idea, but this is not a victory song. i love bob marley but this song will not get the crowd going…it will probably make some fans say boo. sorry but i have to say this decision wasn’t a good one.

Hardly anyone is going to be singing this song, and with the volume of a the PA at RES turned down so much why even bother?

Super 8,000 white people in RES trying to sing a song with a Jamacian accent, this will be the funniest thing in MLS in a very long time. I am bringing my video camera to the game for just this reason, millions of youtube viewers are waiting for this diaster.
Sorry, bad choice, you need a very simply, very catchy tune that people are already familiar with. Yes all of them will be cliche, but this one will end worse than a Samba Gringa dance number.

Some may say that you aren’t going to get thousands of people able to sing the whole song together after the match however I don’t think you are going to get thousands of people to sing anything together.
I think this is a great choice because all you need is to get people singing “I’m gonna be iron like a lion in zion” which once you get that tune and line in your head it’s there to stay.
