The Next Day
It was a great home result for RSL yesterday as both Javi Morales and Kyle Beckerman came up huge to deliver the home side their second victory of the season. The two goal-scoring midfielders were not the only ones who performed well, however, as Andy Williams turned creator for Kyle’s goal and the entire defense stepped up and held on for the full three points. RSL next travels to Colorado for this week’s ESPN Thursday Night Primetime match in the first Rocky Mountain Cup showdown of the year. To add more fuel to the fire, it is the Rapids that sit tied atop the Western Conference, one point ahead of Salt Lake. Therefore, if RSL can pull off the road win they will leapfrog their rivals to the east and (at least until the weekend slate) take the lead in the ever competitive west. Click below to catch up on today’s reading. What did you think of the game? Is this the beginning of a streak or will RSL struggle on the road in a short week?

I am officially changing my name from RSL FAN to what is listed above due to the plethora of impostors…
Great Game, even though our defense and midfield struggled at times. I think that was partly due to the Dallas style of play and their tactics. Great to see the ball roll for us a few times and how much longer are we going to let in sick equalizers? We need to figure out how to finish the last 15 minutes of the game on defense however! I am not shocked that Talley is gone. I think it was a good business decision with the arrival of Beltran and Cutler demonstrating his marked improved skills. Still think we need another forward option and I hope we use our extra roster space (and cap money) to land a DP because the June transfer window is opening up soon….My preference would be Jared Borgetti of the Mexican National Team. He has been rumored to be going to MLS for the last few years. Or how bout another Argie from a team like Boca?
Kreis was right - it was an ugly game. But it feels great to see the guys get the much deserved win. I just wish they wouldn’t sit back on defense for the last few minutes of the game. It’s like inviting the other team to score a goal. Even if we’re up a goal we should still be attacking and looking to increase the lead. At least our defensive line looked really good.
And Rimando should have had a shut-out! Am I the only one who swears Cooper was offsides when that ball was passed to him? Anybody who was at least at the game would know how terrible that line ref was (I’m not even going to mention the on-field ref). Cooper’s goal should’ve been called back just like Duechar’s.
As for this week, I see RSL winning their first road game. The Crapids have been up and down so far this season, and we won our last game of ‘07 at DSGP. I think we’ll do it again and keep the Rocky Mtn Cup this year.
Go RSL!!
“Ever competitive west”? Really? I guess it’s competitive by itself, with a cluster**** of teams with around 7 to 9 points, but with the top team solidly below all but 1 team in the east, I wouldn’t describe the western MLS conference as competitive. Mystifyingly crappy, maybe, but not competitive.
Ryan, I think Rimando should have had a shut out too. He should have stopped the goal. He only had to cover about 1 foot of the goal and he didn’t.
We finally won!
I am just glad we have two wins already. Nick Rimando came up big when he needed to so I was happy with him. Hopefully we can beat the rapids and actually have a winning streak.
So far we are doing better this year than we have the previous seasons. Even though it was an ugly game, we still outplayed FCD for the majority of the game. I’m glad we pulled off the win. Thank goodness for a couple of great saves by Rimando though. Our defense looks good but they need to tighten it up a little bit. I’m glad they pulled Olave off and put in Williams. Wise choice in my opinion. Olave is a good player but he needs a little more experience. I hope we can keep it up and show Colorado how to play a real soccer game.
