Big ups this July 4th Holiday to the Real Salt Lake U-17 Team, which began the defense of its SUM Cup title in fine fashion today across the Rockies at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. This year’s squad – which is split evenly between the RSL-Utah and RSL-Arizona camps – kicked off the third annual edition of the League’s showcase youth event with a gutsy 3-2 win over our neighbors from the North, Toronto FC.  After going down 2-0 midway through the first half, RSL used goals from Donny Toia, Jared Hanze and James Rogers to give the junior Claret-and-Cobalt a thrilling comeback win and a vital three points to kick off pool play.

The squad will have little rest over a busy Holiday weekend, first heading back to The DSG to take in tonight’s Colorado Rapids-Chicago Fire match before getting right back to it for game two in pool play tomorrow afternoon against the Houston Dynamo. Take the jump for all the match details…
