Adding Another?
Garth confirmed to us today that the team has an interest in Nelson Ezequiel Gonzalez, a 20-year-old midfielder currently with Quilmes in Argentina.
“We have extended an invitation to Gonzalez to visit Salt Lake, and we look forward to meeting him. Jason Kreis and I scouted him when we were in South America last winter, and are impressed with his potential” said the RSL GM…

Interesting – we’ve been chatting about this for five days elsewhere, since word appeared in Argentine media that aloan deal had been agreed. An invitation implies no deal in place; the Argentine sources indicate a deal. Hopefully we aren’t just getting less information, at a later date, and this is all there is to the position of the club vis-a-vis the player right now.
Lets keep our fingers crossed. Hopefully once Morales retires then Gonzalez could be the replacement. Maybe he is the understudy to Morales and could one day be the face of our team! Just sayin though…. Its great that he is only 20 years old and his future does seem bright.
ya this would be great he could play here for a few months then we could release him.
I’m getting sick of all of these guys that “have potential”. Why can’t we sign someone who has reached their potential already? Why do we keep signing players with potential, and then releasing or trading them, or letting them just walk away, before that potential is ever reached?
Yura has potential, he’s gone next year.
Escalada had potential, where is he now?
How about Besagno, Luis Tejada, or any of the many other players with “potential”?
RSL will never be a top tier team if we keep signing these “players with potential”. We need players who can make an impact now, not in 5 years after we have already traded or waived them from the team.
Here’s an idea Lagerway, let’s get some players on the pitch who already have some talent, and forgo the next round of “potential” players.
Sorry if I seem bitter, I’m just getting a little sick of watching our team outplay the likes of C-bus, getting burned on a defensive mistake, and completely letting the game get out of control. We need a team that can get past giving up a stupid goal like that, hammer down defensively, and still push for the result. Last week’s game should have been a tie, no less. Our “potential” players are not getting it done.
Sorry if this is getting old but….

please invite your friends to come out and show some support.
So far we have a couple songs/chants we want to try in the 77th minute through the 88th minute (76:00-77:59)
First, the easy “Andy Williams *clap* *clap* *clap-clap-clap*”
A spin on some football chants:
“Glory glory Andy Williams
Glory glory Andy Williams
Glory glory Andy Williams
Your family is in our hearts”
“Ole! ole ole ole
Andy, Williams!”
From keepthe:
“We love you Andy
Oh yes we do!
We love you Andy!
And Marcia Too!
When your not with us, we’re blue!
Oh Andy we love you!”
Please come out and show your support for the Williams’ Family. Wear the number 77, make a poster, get in on the chants, etc.
JULY 24th UN-OFFICIAL WILLIAMS’ FAMILY APPRECIATION NIGHT
bobcat and the rest of the cynics/critics,
Put some names out there, how about that? If you know a better “proven” player that RSL could sign for $100K , then speak up. Have you seen this guy play? Please give us your knowledge, I find it funny that everyone wants moves made.
Last year we made 3 moves and people bitched and moaned until we made the playoffs, this year it again looks like we will make 3 moves, and before any of the players gets more than 45 minutes people are bitching and moaning.
So step up with a solution, what would you do? I know let’s sign Kaka, anyone have 90 million dollars they want to invest just in a signing fee, plus the 8 million dollars a year? You do all understand that there is a salary cap right? You understand clubs have to pay players right?
I honestly just want a few, hell one of the whiners to step up with ideas, suggestion put yourself out there and let people rip every move and thought you have to pieces.
I know someone will post Pavel again, not going to happen, notice how no MLS club is jumping to pay a transfer fee or his high salary demands.
It”s always a crap shoot, to a certain extent, whether a player works out or not, DP level down to developmental player. I think the FO is going after the right type of player, attacking players with good skills who can play wide and hopefully one finisher.
Where are the links on this guy?
spot on denz. we got 3 Argentinians at about this stage in the season in 07 i believe. I like the idea of getting players like this. I am an Arsenal fan so it makes sense. If you aren’t the La Liga, Premiership, Serie A, Bundesliga you pretty much need to forget about players at full potential. That is football.
Denz- here is a news flash for you, most of us have jobs and families and lives outside of soccer. We aren’t getting paid to travel the world, talk to agents, clubs, talent scouts, etc. So, therefore we can’t really give you a whole lot of names that we can sign. ( I have strongly suggested for years that we need to sign a Mexican player, maybe not someone with Blanco’s following, but a good player. Please Garth, tell me that all these annonymous Argy’s are that much better than a talented Mexican. It is a no-brainer for selling tix, and Mexicans have similar talent and ballskill- IMO).
Let’s see how this guy pans out. With all these Argy’s, why not get some sort of relationship established with a club there- Boca, etc? Forget Real madrid, that is not going to work as they have seemingly moved on. Salt Lake Juniors, anyone?
I’ve been saying the same thing about getting a Mexican player for a long time too. I was happy to see they brought on a Brazilian player with the acquisition of Campos. Although, that still doesn’t equate very much into more ticket sales.
By the way, kudos to the group on the South Side. They really show a lot of heart and support for RSL. I admire the passion and energy.
