About the films:
KICK LIKE A GIRL
Directed by: Jenny Mackenzie 24 min English
KICK LIKE A GIRL is the story of what happens when “The Mighty Cheetahs,” an undefeated all-girls soccer team, competes in the boys division. Refreshing and triumphant, KICK LIKE A GIRL reminds us all of the lessons learned in competitive athletics and how sports has been one of the most effective instruments of social change in our lifetime.
“KICK LIKE A GIRL shows that when girls are given an opportunity to play, they feel better about themselves, and believe they can do anything.”
- Kristine Lilly, Captain US World Cup Soccer Team
ZANZIBAR SOCCER QUEENS
Directed by: Florence Ayisi 52 min English/Swahili with Subtitles
Women’s passion for soccer transcends gender boundaries and challenges the traditional image of women in Zanzibar, a predominantly Muslim society. This is a rare and fresh look at the lives of women in Africa, with challenging viewpoints from a community of women determined to achieve personal goals beyond their prescribed traditional roles and expectations. This is the story of women who are determined to define how they want to be seen; playing soccer is a catalyst for personal change. (www.zanzibarsoccerqueens.com)
