robbie-findley.jpgRobbie Findley’s perfect 48th minute strike on Saturday has earned the young striker a nomination for this week’s Sierra Mist Goal of the Week. Robbie looks to become the first RSL player to win the award since week 18 of last season when he took the award for his game-winning strike against the Houston Dynamo. This week Robbie showed a new wrinkle to his game. In the past he’s relied on his great speed and finishing ability to pick up goals, but this week he beat a defender 1-0n-1 and fired a 23-yard laser into the near post past a diving Joe Cannon. It was a great goal and was the turning point in helping propel the home side to victory. Click here to head on over to MLSnet.com and cast your vote. Robbie’s got some tough competition, but it was a fantastic strike and, for our money, the week’s best.

Update: Coupled with his beautiful one-touch assist to Javi Morales for RSL’s second goal, Robbie’s strike has also earned him MLS Player of the Week honors. He becomes the first Real player given the award so far this year as his performance catapulted the squad to a much needed home victory. Congratulations Robbie, it’s well deserved.
