Sorry for the delay in dispatches, but we’ve been so darned busy getting out and about Southern Utah these past few days that I haven’t had time to sit at the olde keyboard for more than two seconds! But since it’s a new week, i thought it only fair to see how the last part of Week One turned out, so take the jump to review what went on in Day 4 of the Tour in Monticello and Kanab!

While we were pretty tuckered from the hiking out at Arches the day before, Leo, “The Intrepid Travelers” and I got up bright and early to get on the road to Monticello for our lone stop in San Juan County. The kids at Monticello Elementary were ready and waiting for us at 8:00 a.m., and we were able to perform a couple of assemblies before hitting the road for the longest drive of our entire month-long journey.

Said drive was a five-hour stretch that wound down through northern Arizona (and included some highlights along the way, like thisand this … and this law-abiding moment at Glen Canyon National Recreation Area) before shooting us back north towards Kane County and its seat of Kanab. Upon rolling into town we checked our bags at the famed Parry Motor Lodge, whose folks were mighty happy to see us, before touring some of “Little Hollywood’s” famed stops.

After catching some supper, we got a police escort to take us over to Kanab Elementary for a public gathering (I don’t want to say I’m a “big deal” or anything, but note the line out the door … just sayin’.) that broke the record for hand-made signs on the stop and allowed TONS of people to meet me up-close-and-personally, like these people, and these kids, and these totally stoked folks.

That visit to Kanab Elementary wrapped up an awesome day on the tour and got us in the right frame of mind to enjoy our first weekend, which took us westward and into St. George. For more on that stop, come back this afternoon for another edition of “Postcards from Uncle Phil!”

Keep Kickin’,
