st-joes-1.JPGYou’re looking live, vicariously at least, at Jayhawks Field at St. Joseph’s High School in Ogden, site of tonight’s RSL Reserves match against the PDL’s Ogden Outlaws and, for our money, one of the most picturesque venues for sports in all of the Beehive State (don’t trust us? just look at the picture!). We’re just about to get underway here, so take the jump with us and follow along at home, won’t you?

RSL’s starting XI is as follows:

GK: Chris Seitz (Kyle Reynish 80)

DEF: Dustin Kirby (Kelvin Scarborough/guest 30), David Horst, Matias Mantilla, Ian Joy

MID: Brennan Tennelle (Kenny Cutler 75), Christiano Torres (guest) (Dustin Kirby 60), Matias Cordoba, Kenny Cutler (Anthony Ravago/guest 45)

FWD: Alex Nimo, Tino Nunez (Yura Movsisyan 60)

And for the Ogden Outlaws (4-4-2 style) …

GK: Michael Chesler

DEF: Russell McCluskey, Mike Hickman Jr., Flynn Stewart-Franzen, Jonny Broadhead

MID: Joseph Hickman, Matt Broadhead, James Jaramillo, #16 (henceforth referred to as “Mystery Man”)

FWD: Kyle Christensen, Gabriel Okito

2′ - In the early going, Tennelle just barely gets beat to a ball at the edge of the Outlaws box by their onrushing ‘keeper, while 30 seconds later Joy makes a run into the box but blasts his shot high.

9′ & 10′ - Teams trade chances, with Ogden shooting wide first before a Cutler cross goes through the 6-yard box without a touch from 2 onrushing RSL’ers.

15′ & 16′ - The defenders are roaming free, as David “Big Bear” Horst heads a Cordoba free kick just over the bar from close range, while a minute later Dustin Kirby shoots low from the top of the box, just missing the right post.

28′ - Not a lot going on in the last 10 minutes, other than a couple of Alex Nimo boderline take downs in the box that earned him no calls from the referee and, just as I type this, another Cutler effort that mirrored his 10th minute chance - low & well-struck, but just outside the right post. Also, Ogden starting XI has been added (well, at least most of it… sorry #16).

nunez.JPG33′ - And Cutler breaks through, taking a glancing pass from Nunez and finished solidly from 10 yards out into the roof of the net. RSL leads 1-0.

Half - We’re going in battery conservation mode here, so you’ll be getting updates about every 10 minutes from here on out. That being said, not a lot of things happening in the final portion of the first half, a half-volley from Nimo in first half stoppage time marking the best chance for either side in the last dozen minutes, so we go to the half at 1-0 RSL-R.

Line of the night from the PA Announcer, plugging the Eccles Dinosaur Park up here in Ogden: “Rock stars older than Mick Jagger!” I don’t care who you are, that’s funny right thar!

60′ - Not a lotta going on in the first quarter hour. The most exciting action came in the 55th minute, when Nimo forgot about the “friendly” part of the tonight’s friendly when he picked up a yellow card on a revenge foul in midfield. Subs are coming fast and furious… we’ll try to be as accurate as possible, but don’t be surprised if one escapes our grasp!

62′ - A trio of chances around the 62nd minute, but two shots are deflected wide while another is saved by the Outlaws ‘keeper.

66′ - Nimo rips a shot from 25 yards that kisses the right post before glancing over the endline.

72′ - And Outlaws FW Kyle Christensen will not sleep well tonight, as he squanders Ogden’s best chance of the night by sending a solid header from the top of the six-yard box just over the crossbar.

74′ - Joy has a quick “Laws of the Game” refresher course conversation with the near side assistant… wait, what was that… he actually agreed with him?

86′ - The Outlaws putting some pressure on the the final minutes of the game, and now with a free kick from 23 yards out. But the chance is juuuuuuuuuust a bit high (think ‘Major League’ here, folks)

88′ - Yura Movsisyan tries the “Landon Sneak Attack” restart from 30 yards out that forces a full diving save at his left post.

90′ - Some nervous moments in the RSL defensive third, but all danger is averted as we enter stoppage time.

91+’ - And that’s not what you want to see… Reiman chopped down on a yellow-drawing tackle with minutes left.

Full time - And there it is. The RSL Reserves make Cutler’s first half goal stand tall and, like their first team brethren as of late, post a clean sheet on the board.

RSL would like to thank the Ogden Outlaws and their head coach Mike Hickman Sr. for having us up for a great annual event here in Ogden. Remember folks, you can catch the RSL Reserves in action next on July 4th against their counterparts from the Houston Dynamo… 10:00 a.m. (Time TBD) start on Independence Day up at Quinn’s Junction in Park City. You bring the donuts, we’ll bring the fireworks (on the field, that is!).
