RSL All-Stars… Where Are They? (Updated w/ video)
Update: Apparently Javi and Kyle caught wind of the fact that the fans haven’t been showing them the love they so rightly deserve. The two star midfielders jumped in front of the camera to discuss the upcoming All-Star match in the newest episode of their cult hit, the Javi and Kyle Show. Check it out below. Original: Is it completely ridiculous that Javier Morales leads the league in assists yet he hasn’t cracked the top ten in MLS All-Star fan voting? We sure think so! And it’s not just Javi, take a quick look at the rankings and you will not see a single RSL representative in the top ten. We sit alone in 2nd place in the West and have had a handful of solid, consistent performers, yet we get no love. It’s time for us to do something about that. I have personally voted for Morales, Beckerman and Borchers about sixty times. If no RSL players make the All-Star team, it won’t be because it wasn’t deserved.
the players on our team that i think deserve it are: Espindola, Dr, Javi, Beckerman, Williams, and Borchers.
However, we have no “big time” player, so we dont get the respect deserved… oh well, this team is looking more for team glory rather then individual glory! Win the cup, and have no one on the allstar team, now that would make a statement of team football!!!
I agree that it is interesting that no RSL players are in the top 10, yet numerous Toronto players are. I’ve voted for every RSL player since voting started. Let’s get some more votes out there.
this is a little off topic, but does anyone know when Sturgis will be back? also will Findley be able to play this week? and will Espindola be able to go this week?
Deserving has nothing to do with it. The way the players are selected assures that. 15 to 32 believing that Espindola and Dr. Goals are the best at their position confirms it. So take it for what it’s worth. Who cares about the all-star game? Let our guys sit and rest for that week, so they’ll be refreshed for games that mean something.

Let all the Toronto players play in the All Star game. Cause they play us at home 4 days later. Let our guys stay rested and safe from this meaningless friendly.
15 to 32 - I talked to Robbie last night and he told me he’s good to go for Saturday. I don’t know anything about Sturgis though.

Agreed. I’ll care about the MLS All-Star game next year when it’s in SLC. This year let’s treat it as an off week and get our guys ready to play. It’s going to be a brutal second half, and we’ll need all the help we can get going into it. That being said, I can smell the playoffs, let’s keep this streak going!
Actually Garth said that Findly wasn’t 100% so they were still undecided for Saturday.
Funny how the attitude on the message board has changed over the last month and a half or so :). It used to be doom and gloom for RSL now there is hope. I ain’t compaining about that! Rock on RSL and thanks for a good how this year! See you on July 3rd.
I dont know if it is a good thing or not that we dont have a player that clearly stands out beyond the others to be a shoe-in all star. We have like 4 guys with 2 or 3 goals each (Findley, Beckerman, Morales, Deuchar, Espindola) and at times we have players step up in matches (Findley 2 weeks ago, Nunez last week). Maybe that is a sign that our guys are working together and building a TEAM rather than having a bunch of star players that dont play well together (ie last year with Freddy Adu, Cunningham, Klein, etc). That being said we still need another quality striker! LOL
I’ve voted over and over again for our guys…hopefully at least one or two will get some recognition and make the team. But Juice and others have it right on - our roster has been assembled such that we don’t rely on a Beckham or Angel or Blanco for wins or notoriety (although, FO, that notoriety may put more butts in seats). There’s 11 guys on the pitch and several more on the bench that collectively find ways to win (or at least tie!) games. It’s too bad RSL can just send their team defense to the All-Star game, because there’s probably not a group in the league that defends as well as we do. Individually, our defenders are good (particularly Olave and Borchers), but as a back line and d-mid unit, I think they’re of the best in the league. (And yes, we STILL need to be looking for some depth and quality at striker. If Robbie goes to the Olympics, we’re screwed.)
If the players get a bonus in the form of cash pay out for making the all-star roster then I am all for voting to help them make the roster.
But if it is of no financial benefit to the player then let them rest for the weekend.
