Good Morning, Wednesday
All is pretty quiet on the Eastern Front here in Charleston on this Wednesday, so we’re gonna throw one of the old “mixed bags” at ya to ease you into the workday … see the stories and links, headed by a fine result for MLS in CONCACAF Champions League play, after the jump.
UPDATED: 1) Lenhart Rescues Crew in CONCACAF Champions League
Move over Van Damme, there’s a new action hero in Columbus! We start off with last night’s result for the Columbus Crew, who got back to competitive play in 2010 by snatching a 2-2 draw at Toluca in the opening leg of their CCL Quarterfinal showdown. Steven Lenhart (aka Jimmy Feldman from the original “Bad News Bears”) led the Crew back from the depths after they went down 2-0 at the end of the first 45, scoring in the 66th and 84th minutes to gain the favorable result heading into the return leg at Toluca
With MLS sides not necessarily enjoying the best track record south of the border in this competition , let’s hope the Crew’s result in the away leg next week will begin to reverse that trend by the time RSL enters the competition in August. To check out the second leg at Columbus Crew Stadium in Mexico next Wednesday, tune into Fox Soccer Channel (6:00 pm MT).
2) A Lilly Blooms in Spring … Again!
Remember folks, the first soccer match at Rio Tinto Stadium will not be RSL’s home opener on April 10, but the U.S. Women’s National Team’s friendly against Mexico on March 31. US WMT coach Pia Sundhage named her roster for that match in Sandy and the two teams’ meeting in San Diego three days prior, and part of the 24-player roster was a familiar face – actually, THE most familiar face, midfielder Kristine Lilly. The 23-year veteran of the women’s Senior Team (no, that’s not a typo) and Boston Breakers performer in WPS play will be seeking to build upon her world record 342 “caps” during the two contests, and we’re not-so-secretly hoping that number increases at “The Riot” at month’s end. Check out Kristine’s thoughts that she posted to her website on the call-up … and don’t forget to get your seats for the USA-Mexico game now!
Fun fact: Six of the other 23 players on the USA roster for the Mexico friendlies were born after Lilly made her international debut as a 16-year-old on Aug. 3, 1987
Not to be outdone by the online efforts of teammates Kyle Beckerman and Nick Rimando, defender Chris Wingert is the latest member of the Claret-and-Cobalt to unleash a fan blog on Al Gore’s internet. Click here to see what’s going on in the “World of Wingert” and keep checking in periodically … we’ll gently remind him that, since it’s an off day, he’s got plenty of time for a new post!

The game last night was in Columbus, the second leg is at Toluca.
You are oh-so-right Bohris … thanks for pointing out.
Come on, spill it…is Saborio in camp or not?
So…. nothing about the players saying they are likely to strike?
