RSL U-17s Notch PK Win Over Galaxy at SUM Cup
RSL’s First Team isn’t the only squad in Claret-and-Cobalt that can toss out an impressive streak, as the Real Salt Lake U-17 Team’s penalty kick win over the LA Galaxy after a 1-1 draw through 60 minutes of regulation pushed the squad’s undefeated run in SUM U-17 Cup play to 11 games, dating back to 2008. That ledger includes a 1-0-1 mark in Group D play thus far in 2010, and RSL’s two points from today’s shootout win pushed it atop the Group D table with one game remaining – Monday’s decisive tilt against the Kansas City Wizards.
Real Salt Lake would come back for the second game in a row, although this time its deficit was about as short-lived as it gets. The Galaxy’s Dyllan Stevens put LA on the board first in the 48th, but RSL would counter just a minute later via Junior Jbopau, off an assist from one of last night’s goal scorers in the 2-1 win over New York, Maikon Orellana. With Carson Elliot in goal and conversions from the spot by Jbopau, Joseph Metzger, Zander Rados, and Matt Gay, RSL was able to collect the extra standings point for the PK triumph.
