2008 Western Conference Championship at Rio Tinto Stadium!
The New York Red Bulls defeated the Houston Dynamo 3-0 this afternoon to claim the last spot in this year’s Western Conference Finals alongside Real Salt Lake. The game will be contested next Saturday night, November 15 at 7:00 p.m. MT at RSL’s new Rio Tinto Stadium. The match will be RSL’s second-ever home Playoff contest and the winner will be headed to Los Angeles and the Home Depot Center for MLS Cup 2008.
Tickets to the match are on sale now starting at just $20 for indivuidual tickets. To grab your seat head on over to RioTintoStadium.com, call 801.924.8585, or stop by our Trolley Corners offices (515 South 700 East, Suite 2R). RSL account executives will be available over the phone to take orders over the phone or in person anytime between 9:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. any day this week (including today) at the Trolley Corners office or 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Rio Tinto Stadium East Side box office Monday through Saturday. only MLS rules could create a Conference Final scenario that could give an Eastern Conference team the Western Conference Championship. keep the conferences, but ditch the distinction in the post-season. Round 1 & 2 would be just great.

Whomever wins this next game is not the Western Conference Champion. I don’t believe they get a trophy or anything because of how it is set up for the playoffs. They just enter the MLS Cup Final through our bracket. Houston already are titled as the Western Conference Champs because of their regular season record. If this is wrong please correct me. Lets sell out Rio Tinto! If we don’t then that will be really disappointing…

FO, how about putting about 10 streamers on every chair in the upper deck before the game and when the team comes on the field they get thrown in mass, like in South America?
Also, how about lowering the prices a little bit, so we have a sellout, instead of the embarrassing empty section right in the middle of the east side where the cameras focus all day?

hey Challs –the game is saturday
I sent out a mass email at work, and have a ton of people that want me to get tickets for them with the season ticket holder’s discount.
I hope to fill the stadium myself….
I just looked at the webcam and there are no visible rugby lines left (they don’t have nearly as many as American Football to start with). The field looks decent. See you all on Saturday.

to SJSF- Why do we want to have tons of streamers to throw on the field WE ARE NOT IN SOUTH AMERICA!!! Am I the only one who thinks its ridiculous to bombard the field with streamers like Chivas did to Rimando and how Toronto does it? Its a joke. A few for scoring a goal is fine but anything else is ridiculous to me. Seriously am I the only one who feels this way? On other thoughts lets hope the boys play like they did last home game but but in a few of their 20 odd chances. Can’t wait to head to LA next week to see them bring home the cup!

Personally, I like the streamers…. the best way to show enthusiasm is obviously through the noise we make, but streams help show it too.
Okay, J, you just sit on your hands and munch your hotdog like 80% of the other fans at the stadium. Go to a game in S. America sometime and you’ll see what rocking the house is all about and making a place hard for a visiting team to play in.
Bringing streamers to the game is like bringing 3-year-olds to the game:

I think our tickets will be more expensive than the MLS CUP in Carlsbad. Simply Wrong. I love RSL, but the stadium doesn’t warrant the prices. I’m going to have to agree with J, the streamers suck. And just because I don’t like streamers doesn’t make me a non-fan. I’m standing and yelling with the rest of them. Streamers just make the competition worse and inhibit the game play for everybody. They should be banned from the MLS. But, that is just my opinion.
I too have sent out mass text asking friends and family to help them get the great discount, i just think it stupid that I, as a season ticket holder, am being charged more than my friends and family. If it werent for the season ticket holders finding people to fill the stadium up, the place would be empty. I think management needs to give a real benefit to the season ticket holders, especially the ones that are finding more than 75 other tickets from friends and family.
i seriously can’t believe people are still crying about what should be allowed in the stadium, shut up and do what you want already and let others celebrate how they want. first you want noise makers gone, now streamers. but then you complain people are to quiet? just stop it’s stupid just go to the games go crazy however you want and make it a living hell for the opposing team. pretty soon it will be like a boring jazz game where the mascot has to come out and show the fans how to cheer. soccer/football, is a world sport and its celebrated in many different ways so i say do what you want. and stop with the crying!!!!

Holy crap. Unbelievable. Never thought the day would come when i would wish to live in another country. But its here. I had a hard enough time getting over the no noise makers rule and the people telling me to sit down and that i’m too loud at the games. Now, on the RSL blog, our fans complain about streamers too? You people are KILLING me. The craizer the party, the better. The more things that get banned the more lame the atmosphere becomes. I realize SOME rules are necessary for our safety but COME ON! Instead of having fun chucking streamers or confetti you want to complain about it? PLEASE if you don’t want to throw any don’t. Just sit there, go to the north goal, seem to be a lot of people there with your taste. Noise, songs, chants, streamers, confetti, BRING IT! Don’t make J’s mistaken idea of “North American” soccer become a reality. Don’t let it be said that “OH YES, in America you SIT at the game, DON’T stand, DON’T blow your horn, DON’T throw anything, and you sure don’t do anything that might be fun”.
PLEASE be crazy in any way you’re allowed. Who knows, the lame like J might make the rules some day. So lets go crazy while we can
